4th August 2009

The second annual Pacific Islands Film Festival - Cultural Forum Through Film will be held Friday, August 7 through August 9, 2009 at the Doris Duke Theatre, featuring films from Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Canada. All films are FREE to the public.

"These films represent the state of documentary filmmaking in Oceania today," says Vilsoni Hereniko, Director of the Center for Pacific Islands Studies at the University of Hawai'i. "Each film portrays fascinating and arresting characters grappling with contemporary issues of social and cultural significance to their communities," adds Dru Gladney, the President of the Pacific Basin at Pomona College. "This film festival represents PBI's on-going commitment to helping to increase exposure to Pacific Basin films and culture."
